Where did the funds come
from to upgrade ALPUC's water and sewer systems?
Through the
Consolidated Farm & Rural Development Act, USDA Rural Development makes
funds available for direct loans (and grants for eligible project areas) for
drinking water and wastewater systems in rural areas. Without these programs,
many small West Virginia
communities, like ours, would be unable to resolve their water and waste
problems. The $3.5 million loan, at 4.25% interest for 40 years, which funded
the replacement of Alpine Lake's worn out sewage treatment plant closed in
January 2008 and was made through the USDA Rural Development program. Likewise, our water upgrade loans came from
USDA Rural Development.
